            Referral systems for abortion/emergency care

 

Definition:

Emergency referral systems are in place, documented, and staff are aware.

 

Purpose:

Quality abortion care requires emergency referral protocols or guidelines to ensure a continuum of care for clients who experience a severe adverse event following medical or surgical abortion and require a higher level of care.

Pharmacies

Hotlines

 

Justification for Inclusion:

Expert review panel

 

Quality Threshold:

A site is considered high quality if 80% of providers pass.

 

Data Sources:

  • For all health facilities: Health Facility Provider Survey questions HF213 and HF214
  • For pharmacies: Pharmacy Provider Survey questions PH209 and PH210
  • For hotlines: Hotline Provider Survey questions HL209 and HL210

 

Details:

The proportion of providers who answered with the following response pattern:

  1. Response options 1 OR 2 for HF213/PH209/HL209
  2. Response option 1 OR 2 OR 3 for HF214/PH210/HL210
