Definition:

Sites use World Health Organization-approved methods for uterine evacuation based on gestational age.

Purpose:

Quality abortion care requires use of abortion methods that are evidence-based, safe, and effective in order to reduce complications.

Justification for Inclusion:

Expert review panel

Quality Threshold:

A point of service is considered as meeting this indicator’s quality threshold if 100% of providers are found to use World Health Organization-approved methods for uterine evacuation based on gestational age.

Data Source:

  • For health facilities: Health Facility Provider Survey questions HF210 and, if applicable, HF212

Details:

  • For health facilities, the proportion of providers who provide the following response pattern:
      1. Any combination of response options ‘a’, ‘b’, AND/OR ‘c’ to question HF210
      2. Any combination of response options ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘c’, AND/OR ‘d’ to question HF212, if the facility provides second trimester abortion services
