Definition:

Client received their desired contraceptive method or referral for desired method.

 

Purpose:

Quality abortion care requires a person-centered approach to the provision of contraception, which includes ensuring that clients receive their method of choice if desired, and do not receive a method if they do not desire.

 

Indicator Applicability:

Health Facilities

Pharmacies

 

Justification for Inclusion:

Statistical association with client outcomes

 

Quality Threshold:

A point of service is considered as meeting this indicator’s quality threshold if 100% of clients reported receiving their desired method or a referral for their desired method.

 

Data Sources:

  • For health facilities: Health Facility Client Exit Interview questions HF125 to HF128a
  • For pharmacies: Pharmacy Client Exit Interview questions PH119 to PH123

 

Details:

For health facilities and pharmacies, the proportion of clients who answered with one of the following response patterns:

 

  1. Wanted a method and either got desired method or a referral for it, or changed mind
    • Response option 1 for HF125/PH119
    • Response option 1, 2, 3, OR 4 for HF128/PH122
    • If applicable, response option 3 for HF128a/PH123
  2. Didn’t want a method and didn’t get a method
    • Response option 2 OR 88 for HF125/PH119
    • Response option 2 for HF126/PH120
  3. Didn’t want a method but got a method after changing mind
    • Response option 2 OR 88 for HF125/PH119
    • Response option 1 for HF126/PH120
    • Response option 2 for HF127/PH121
    • Response option 1, 2, 3, OR 4 for HF128/PH122
    • If applicable, response option 3 for HF128a/PH123
