Definition:

Pain management is available to all clients, and not dependent on economic status.

 

Purpose:

Quality abortion care requires access to pain management, regardless of ability to pay, in order to ensure equity in abortion provision.

 

Indicator Applicability:

Health Facilities

 

Justification for Inclusion:

Statistical association with client outcomes

 

Quality Threshold:

A point of service is considered as meeting this indicator’s quality threshold if 100% of clients report that pain management was available to them, regardless of their economic status.

 

Data Source:

 

  • For health facilities offering surgical abortion or medical abortion in cases in which clients plan to pass the pregnancy inside the facility: Health Facility Client Exit Interview questions HF113 and HF114

 

Details:

For health facilities, the proportion of clients who received a surgical abortion or who passed a medical abortion in the facility who answered with the following response pattern:

 

  1. Response option 1 to question HF113
